Hello,

what may be a nice feature within the ZxBackup panel would be the ability to set a full export backup path to something like /mnt/backup/%Y%d%m so that a daily export could be performed.

We know that a doExport can be performed but for some it may be easier through the GUI than CLI.

Hello Innovot,

during the development of ZeXtras Backup and the following design overhauls we chose not to implement the feature you mention as it would be an "improper" use of the External Backup feature, which is meant to be only used for migrations.

Due to how the ZeXtras Datastore is designed, a more proper way to perform an additional backup is be to simply use rsync to move your data to a different storage media, either local or remote. This way, you can choose to apply multiple (more effective) backup policies instead of just storing multiple snapshots of the current mail system.

We are aware that this is a CLI-only solution and that many users would prefer a GUI option, and because of this we are designing some GUI-driven offsite backup options. 


I will take care of expanding ZeXtras Backup's technical documentation with more informations about additional/offsite backup strategies.

that would be useful as to understand how to ensure data consistency when a PiT (Point in Time) back is required.

Hello Innovot,

"Full" PiT restore is not available in ZeXtras Backup, as the External Restore operation will always restore the latest state available for all items and mailboxes.

In case of a data loss in the main Backup Datastore my suggestion would be to completely stop using the current Datastore, find and solve the issue that caused the data loss, and then start using the "backupped" datastore as the main backup path (running a SmartScan after switching to the new path to ensure consistency).

I'll add all of this informations to the related Wiki page (which I'm going to create shortly).
